GREEN ENERGY HARVESTING TECHNOLOGY IN 3D IC

[attachment=18085]
: INTRODUCTION

An environmentally sustainable IT hardware opens the era of GREEN ELECTRONICS. The practice of designing, use and disposal of peripherals should be done with minimal or no effects on the environment. The three dimensional integrated circuit (3D IC) is the most promising technology route for bridging the huge gap of energy demand and supply of today and tomorrow. This technology focuses on a memory on logic 3D IC in which green energy utilization is implemented by the material and fabrication of thermocouple structures for this IC.

Large differences in temperature between memory and logic layers are the source of abundant supply of energy when using a thermocouple thermoelectric structure. This energy which would have got dissipated as wasted heat in the logic layer is thus converted into electricity in the memory layer and in this way providing green energy for memory operations.

The main advantage of green energy harvesting technology is that some parts of the power delivery can be reduced. It involves better heat management requirement. However, it has been found that this technology cannot fully support the entire memory operations and we however require the power supply for its operations but use can be limited.

GREEN ENERGY

This technology mainly deals with green energy harvesting in a 3D IC. Since green energy utilization is widespread in any area of work , an insight into green energy and its limitations is inevitable. Today the term green is used across the globe as a reference to living in a way that is environmentally friendly. When it comes to green power or green energy, the same connotation implies. It is the term that is used when describing energy sources of power that are known to be non-polluting energy sources, thereby fundamentally environment friendly. It is also an environmentally friendly means of locating and finding power that will remedy the effects of pollutants on our environment, as well as prevent future global warming.

DEFINITION:

The simplest green energy definition would be energy produced from energy sources that are environmentally more friendly (or “ greener”) compared to fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas).Green energy therefore includes all renewable energy sources (solar, wind, geothermal, bio-fuels, hydropower) and by definition should also include nuclear energy though there is strong opposition from the environmentalists on account of the nuclear waste associated with it causing harmful environmental effects.

PRIMARY BENEFITS

Climate change has become a global threat, and the world needs to find cleaner (less emitting) energy options, and thus the importance of green energy rises like anything.
The reduction of impacts to the environment is based on the methods of energy or power that is used. The reduction of emissions that are harmful to the environment based on the methods of energy or power that is used.

The promotion of green energy not only includes using more renewable energy sources in years to come but also to make currently dominant fossil fuels energy technologies more greener and less polluting(such as clean coal technologies.)
