Pollution is the introduction of pollutants into the natural environment that cause adverse changes. Pollution can take the form of chemicals or energy, such as noise, heat or light. Contaminants, the components of pollution, can be foreign substances or energies or natural pollutants. Pollution is often classified as a point source or nonpoint pollution. As pollution increases, ways to combat it have also grown. Solar energy and wind power give people other ways to power their homes. When people use these alternative forms of energy, they put less carbon dioxide into the environment.
The air pollution
Here are some ways that air pollution occurs. Air pollution is caused by poisonous gases, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and very small particles. It is also caused by the smoke and harmful gases released by the fires that cause vehicles and factories to go. The use of charcoal, wood, and kerosene as fuel for fire also causes air pollution. Air pollution can cause respiratory problems such as asthma or other health problems. It also causes diseases like cancer. Air pollution causes global warming and acid rain. This results in an unpredictable rise in temperatures. Rain and drought all over the world. This hinders the survival of living organisms.
Water Pollution
Water pollution is the presence of harmful materials in the water, such as sewage, dissolved metals, farm residues, factories and crude oil spilled from oil tankers. The three main substances that pollute water are nitrates from fertilizers, waste water and detergents. Activities such as bathing and washing clothes near lakes, ponds or rivers add nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus to bodies of water. This leads to excessive growth of algae on the surface of the water. It blocks the penetration of sunlight and air, thus reducing oxygen. Pollution causes damage to organisms living in the water and can also damage the health of people. In extreme cases, it can cause problems like cancer.
Noise pollution
Acoustic pollution is also known as noise pollution that is harmful to both humans and animals. This includes the sound of vehicles, loudspeakers, etc. Acoustic pollution can cause hearing problems or even permanent deafness, especially for the elderly. It also causes problems related to the brain.
Soil contamination
Soil pollution (also known as soil pollution) is when artificial chemicals, such as hydrocarbons, heavy metals, solvents, enter the soil. These chemicals come from industrial activities and from waste disposal. Contamination of the soil can cause health risks. Chemicals may produce harmful vapours, or may contaminate the water supply below contaminated soil.
