A world without an engineer is like a bicycle without wheels. Today it happens to be the 147 birthday of one of the great sons of India. September 15 is designated as Engineer's Day. I would like to share with you some interesting excerpts from the life of the great man. Any state should be fortunate to have a minister of the capacity of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. How many disinterested patriots do we have? Free India honors the country's great servants every year by granting titles. The highest of this award is 'Bharata Ratna'. In 1955 Visvesvaraya became a 'Bharata Ratna', the jewel of India. It was a jewel of humanity itself.
Visvesvaraya was a genius. The Blocks System he invented, the automatic doors he devised to stop the excessive water overflow, water supply and drainage system he planned for the city of Aden, received many accolades from engineers around the world. His memory was incredible as a genius. We saw how in 1908 he tamed Moosa. Fifty years later, one day, there was a discussion about the river, and he referred to some detail. In 1906-07, the Government of India sent him to Africa to study the water supply and drainage system and the project prepared by him was successfully implemented in Eden. He was a very big engineer in India and the first engineer too.
How did Visvesvaraya use his genius and his extraordinary memory? This is the important question. He was never late in a minute and never lost a minute. Once a minister was delayed in three minutes; MV advised him to be punctual. A man must do any work he does methodically - that was his firm faith. Every man should understand his responsibility and do his best - which was the essence of his teaching. He practiced this very honestly, and there are hundreds of cases to prove this. Until he was confined to his bed he was very particular about his clothes. Even when he was 95, the people who were going to see him were surprised, he was so carefully and carefully dressed. He once said: "Remember, your work may be: Only to sweep a railroad track, but it is your duty to keep it so clean, that no other crossing in the world is as clean as yours"
A hundred examples of their discipline and devotion to work can be listed. He once said: "The curse of our country is laziness." Engineering is not simply knowing and knowing, like a walking encyclopedia; Engineering is not merely an analysis; Engineering is not simply the possession of the ability to get elegant solutions to nonexistent engineering problems; Engineering is practicing the art of forcing the organization of technological change. The ideal engineer is a composite. He is not a scientist, he is not a mathematician, he is not a sociologist or a writer; But you can use anyone's knowledge and skills; Or all these disciplines in solving engineering problems. Engineers operate at the interface between science and society. Engineers like to solve problems. If there are no readily available problems, they will create their own problems and develop a number of ways to solve them.
Now lakhs of engineering graduates who leave each year from various parts of the country. Universities should celebrate this day with seminars on the stage from past to present in Indian Engineering. Day Engineers should be a day when all minds rested in the engineering sector should be treated with zeal by the authorities. Otherwise this day will disappear from history, with the passage of time. With this hope we will celebrate the day with all our efforts on this auspicious day.
