INTRODUCTION
India has become the largest producer of sugar cane/sugar producing 280 tugriks cane sugar MNT 16.5 and 1995-96 respectively, making it the largest sugar producer in the world, representing about 20% of the production of sugar cane. India also produces another 10 traditional sweeteners tugriks (MNT 9 khandsari and GUR 1 MNT). India also has a large consumer base, which makes it very vulnerable to international market for sugar, in the event of excess or deficit situation.
