To detect the movement of the vehicle on the freeways to turn on only a block of street lights in front of it (vehicle), and to turn off the taillights to save energy. During the night all the lights on the road remain lit for vehicles, but much energy is lost when there is no movement of the vehicle. This proposed system provides a solution for energy savings. This is achieved by detecting an approaching vehicle and then lighting a block of street lights in front of the vehicle. As the vehicle passes, the starter lights turn off automatically. Thus, we save a lot of energy.

So when there are no vehicles on the road, then all the lights remain off. However, there is another mode of operation in which, instead of turning off the lights completely, they remain on with 10% of the maximum intensity of the light. As the vehicle approaches, the street light lock changes to 100% intensity and then, as the vehicle passes, the taillights are redirected back to 10% intensity. The high intensity discharge lamp (HID) currently used for urban street light is based on the principle of gas discharge, so the intensity is not controllable by any voltage reduction. White light-emitting diode (LED) lamps quickly replace HID lamps in street light. Current control is also possible by the pulse width modulation (PWM) generated by the microcontroller.

The sensors used on both sides of the road detect the movement of the vehicle and send logic commands to the microcontroller to turn on / off the LEDs. Thus, this way of dynamically changing the ON / OFF intensity helps save a lot of energy. The project uses a microcontroller of the PIC series. In addition, the project can be improved by using sensors suitable for detecting non-street light and then send an SMS to the control department via GSM modem for proper action.
