In a simple way we can say that cyber crime is an unlawful act in which the computer is a tool or an objective or both. Cyber crimes may involve criminal activities that are of a traditional nature, such as theft, fraud, counterfeiting, defamation and harm, all of which are subject to the Indian Penal Code. The abuse of computers has also given birth to a range of new age crimes that are addressed by the Information Technology Act, 2000.


In the age of the cyber world as the use of computers became more popular, there was expansion in the growth of technology as well, and the term 'Cyber' became more familiar to the people. The evolution of information technology (IT) gave birth to the cyber space in which the Internet offers equal opportunities to all people to access any information, data storage, analysis, etc. With the use of high technology. Due to the increase in the number of Internet users, the misuse of technology in cyberspace was being grabbed, which resulted in cyber crimes nationally and internationally as well. Although the word crime carries its general meaning as "a legal error that can be followed by a criminal process that can result in punishment", while cyber crime may be "illegal acts in which the computer is a tool or objective or both ".

In 1970, the German State of Hesse enacted the first specific computer law in the world, in the form of "Data Protection Act, 1970", with the advancement of cybernetic technology. With the emergence of technology, the abuse of technology has also been expanded to its optimum level and then the need for strict statutory laws to regulate criminal activities in the cyber world and to protect the system of technological progress. In these circumstances, the Indian Parliament approved its "INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LAW" on October 17 to have its comprehensive law dealing with technology in the field of electronic commerce, e-governance, electronic banking, as well as sanctions and Punishments In the field of cyber crime.

Cybercrime actually means: It could be hackers vandalizing your site, viewing confidential information, stealing trade secrets or intellectual property with the use of the Internet. It can also include "denial of services" and virus attacks that prevent regular traffic from reaching your site. Cyber crimes are not limited to outsiders, except in the case of viruses and with respect to security-related cyber crimes that are often done by employees of a particular company who can easily access the password and data storage of the Company for its benefits.
