The CUCKOO EGG project has bit of hactivism aimed at promoting debate regarding on-line file trading and artists rights in the digital age. This project is aimed at stopping the online piracy. The methodology used is very simple and involves the creation of an mp3 file and then renaming it to that of a genuine file.
How To Lay Cuckoo's Eggs
As figuratively said, you can lay your own Cuckoo's Eggs in the nests of NApster and other popular peer to peer file sharing networks by following the following steps:
1)Download and install Kazaa or BearShare:
The laying of eggs will be more effective if the esoftware can be installed on multiple machines so that many users can connect.
2)Download or rip songs which are to be used as eggs.
Musicmatch or CoolEdit can be used for ripping songs. Try and use songs from artists who've expressed disapproval of file sharing. Apply it to music that is popular.
3)Edit the songs adding noise, sounds, and other info.
Cool Edit, which is available as shareware can be used for this step. 20-90 seconds of the real song is left intact. replace the remainder with silence, white noise, or other sound files. This must match the duration of the original file. The Cuckoo Egg sound file is also available.
4)The mp3 files so created are copied to the napster directories.
This involves the save the file in MP3 format and copy it into your P2P program's share[/quote]d directory.
5)Connect to Napster and start laying eggs!
