1 - Introduction :
Most of the times it happens that in the computer/IT lab, students insert their pen-drives, floppies, CD/DVD’s, etc. By doing so, they harm or spoil the internal working of a system. By inserting a pen-drive into a system, various kinds of viruses from the pen-drive gets inserted into the system. These viruses harm or spoil the functioning of the system. And hence system doesn’t work in the desired way or manner.
At the time of practical exams also, many students does the cheating in the exam by using pen-drives, CD’s, floppies, etc. They use such things for copying the data and make their work run successfully. And even if the lab assistants disable those from BIOS, students became so intelligent that they enable the settings from BIOS.
Not only that but if internet settings are available in the lab via LAN, students put the HUB or switch of it on/off randomly without any permission. Not only that but they also view or surf some unwanted web-sites.
So in order to avoid such things in the lab, we are introducing our concept called “CENTRALIZED CONTROLLING OF PERIPHERALS/PC’s USING RADIO FREQUENCY”. This is a software that helps you to control various PC’s and the controls of PC’s and also various other peripherals using Radio Frequency. It can be done/controlled from one server machine. This server machine can control above discussed things using radio frequency emitted from transmitter situated beside server machine. Let us see the working of the software in the detail.
2 – Working :
This software consists of a server machine that controls all the above discussed functions of number of other PC’s in the range of radio frequency emitted by the transmitter attached to the server. The H.O.D. of the department can disable the USB port, CD/DVD ROM, floppy drive, internet settings and various other functions of various PC’s from a server machine kept in his cabin and no one can enable or change any setting from BIOS or by some any other slots. The H.O.D. can control full lab from his cabin only. He could also come to know that which website is being used on which PC.
The server machine is provided with the software that does all such things. Transmitter is attached to the server and is placed beside the server. This transmitter consists of an antenna that emits a radio frequency. According to the command given by the person on a server machine, a particular command is executed and is sent through a radio frequency over many PC’s in its range with its address. This signal sent through a radio frequency is modulated by the transmitter before sending it.
This signal is then transmitted over many PC’s in the range and is activated on the PC whose address is matched. Every PC in the lab is attached with their own set-top box. This set-top box catches the desired address and its signal and then it demodulates it. Set-top box also consists of the relay that controls various parts of the PC according to the command driven. This relay makes use of transistor for selecting various commands to control the peripherals of the specified PC.
For more details of the working of the software, refer the block diagram.

4 – Software Requirement :
Visual Basic.NET
Microsoft SQL Server
5 – Hardware Requirement :
Server Computer.
Interface Cable.
Hub.
Transmitter With Encoder Circuit.
One Or More Client PC’s Each Consisting A Set-top Box.
Decoder Circuit For Each Set-top Box.
6 – Advantages :
Maintains the PC’s in the lab.
Helps PC’s not to get prevented by viruses or worms through viral-defected pen-drives.
Easy prevention of copying data from various storage devices during exams.
Helps in proper usage of internet facilities.
7 – Disadvantages :
Requires efforts for implementation.
Increases cost of the project by using various hardwares.
Various complicated circuits are used.
8 – Future Scope And Market Value :
As this project maintains and controls various PC’s and their peripheral devices in the lab, it is sure that this project will be popularly used everywhere in the large scale. This is the first version of the project and we are trying to work on the second version which will include various advanced features like controlling the fans, AC’s and various other devices in the lab using radio frequency.
9 – Conclusion :
So from the working of the project, its advantages and its scope, it is clear that the project claim itself as a very useful one. It would be an advantageous work by implementing it in the lab.
