ABSTRACT
Steam generators are widely used in industries for several purposes like power production, processing, heating etc. In industry steam generators are the major fuel consumers. In a normal steam generator about 4% of hot water is wasted as blow down. Due to this, a large amount of heat energy is wasted. This project aims to bring a heat recovery system to prevent heat losses, so that a large savings can be made. So in ths a heat recovery system was designed to minimize the losses.
1.INTRODUCTION
Blow down is a process usually done in boilers to controls TDS ( Total Dissolved Solids) of boilers water. This is done by removing the boilers water from the boiler drum at certain time intervals. The blow down energy system is indented to recover energy from blow down water. This is done by introducing a heat exchanger along with a flash chamber.Plate type heat exchanger is used in the system, which is used to absorb heat from hot water. This heat is supplied to the boiler feed water. Energy saving in the deaerator will be found as part of the project.
2.COMPANY PROFILE
Apollo Tyres is the flagship company of the Raunaq Singh Group. It was incorporated in 1972,and first set up at Perambra(kerala) in 1977 with the collaboration of with General Tyres International CO U.S.A.,which now owned by Continental AG.Its second plant came up in 1991 at Baroda. Gujarat followed by a third plant at Pune in Maharashtra. Since its creation in 1977,Apollo Tyres have created a distinct identity in the market. Fastest growing company in India, seventh in the world. Eighteenth largest company in the world. The first tyre company in India to obtain ISO9001 Certification for all its operations. The first tyre company to introduce packaging for tubes, two wheeler tyres and car tyres. The first tyre company to have the concept of exclusive showrooms for truck tyres, called-“APOLLO TYRE WORLD”.
As the country’s leading tyre manufacturing company Apollo takes pride in its manufacturing units spread across the company using state of the art equipment and cutting edge technology. In keeping with company’s policy to move the times and use superior technologies all the plants and manufacturing units are completely digitized. This ensures minimum errors and effective quality control that helps us to reduce remanufacturing cost.Apollo Tyres set up its very first manufacturing unit at Perambra in kerala with a production unit capacity of 188 tonnes. For the first time, in 2006 Apollo ventured outside India in its quest to test itself outside its home comforts. Apollo acquired Dunlop Tyres International Pty Ltd in South Africa (since renamed as Apollo Tyres South Africa Pty Ltd) and Zimbabwe, taking on southern Africa as the second domestic market. The company holds brand rights for the Dunlop brand across 30Africancountries.In 2009, Apollo acquired Vredestein Banden B V in the Netherlands, and thereby adding Europe as its third crucial market.
INTRODUCTION TO TYRE MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Tyre production is a step by step process. Mainly there are three divisions for the manufacturing of tyres In the first phase the main process is the raw material mixing and manufacturing of plies. Plies are thin rubber sheets used for the manufacturing of green tyres Tyre building is done in the second division, in the building process , different qualities of plies are wounded in tyres. This finally gets the shape of green tyre.
Before carrying to the next division the green tyre is applied with a lubricant on it. The third division mainly aims at curing the green tyre. In the curing process the tyre is placed on the die to which high temperature and pressure steam is applied, thus tyre in original shape and strength is obtained.
