Since the fuel cell system has slow dynamics of nature, it is recommended that you have an additional auxiliary power, for example, ultra-capacitors or batteries during the transition to improved performance in energy and transport applications. The use of ultracapacitors and bi-directional converter with a fuel cell system may be one of the possible solutions to the problem of slow dynamics of fuel cell systems. In this article we present a combined small AC signal equivalent circuit model of bidirectional converter in PEM fuel cell, and the cell with the aim to develop a corresponding controller for bi-directional converter. Transient performance of the entire system, including the fuel cell model, the ultra capacitor and bi-directional converter modeled in Matlab Simulink environment.
