BAN technology
What is BAN
Stands for BODY AREA NETWORKING.
Also known as WBAN(Wireless BAN).
A mobile network over human body.
Data can be transfered over human body (upto 100 mbps MAX.).
IEEE 802.15.6 is the task group for WBAN.
Components
Sensors(mobile & intercommunicating)
Low duty cycle
TinyOS .
Network Protocol.
Peer to peer or point to multipoint connection
How it works
Transmitter circuit Sends data in form of electric field.
Receiver decodes the signal
Properties
Distance 2 m std, 5 m special
Devices per network max. 100
Net network throughput 100 Mbit/s max.
Power consumption ~ 1mW / Mbps (@ 1 m distance)
Startup time < 100 μs
Latency (end to end) 10 ms
Network setup time < 1 sec
(after initial setup, per device)
Remote wake up & effective sleep mode(s).
Real life Application
Health Sector
Can inform the doctor about a patient before Heart attack
Can inject Insulin to a Dibetic patient on decrease in insulin level
In ICU multiple cables for patients monitoring can be replaced by small wireless networks
Advantage
Less power consumption.
Future proof.
>Backword Compatible,scaleable,upgradable.
Simplified MAC address & less complex network layers.
Omni-directional antennasmall,flexible.
Several power management/consumption schemes.
Devices are wearable or implanted.
