application of remote sensing in wasteland mapping ppt
Abstract
Visual and monoscopic interpretations of Landsat TM-FCC (1:50,000) of January and October, 1986 were made to identify and delineate different categories of wastelands in Karnal district. After conducting ground truths the wasteland maps were prepared. The nature and extent of wastelands identified were (i) salt affected soils, 11460 ha(3.08%), (ii) degraded pasture/grazing land, 7480 ha(2.01%), (iii) seasonally water logged areas 337 ha (0.09%), (iv) degraded nonforest plantation, 290 ha(0.08%). The degraded forests occupied 388 ha (0.1096). For these wastelands proper agricultural landuse planning have been suggested
