Application of Kalman Filter to Remove TMS-Induced

In the TMS (transcranial magnetic simulation) method, a pulsed magnetic field created by a coil positioned next to the scalp is used to locally depolarize neurons in brain cortex. It can be easily combined with electroencephalography(EEG) so that regional brain activity in response to direct cortical stimulation can be visulaized. This makes it an important tool for brain mapping and study. theTMS impulse generates high amplitude and long-lasting artifacts that corrupt the EEG trace which is a great disadvantage in the case of a EEG/TMS coregistration. This approach uses the kalman filter to nullify the TMS-induced artifacts from EEG wave recordings. the linear system arising from the combination of the dynamic models describing EEG and TMS signals is applied to the Kalman filter

The control engineering area found a testbed of the theories in the field of Electroencephalographic signals processing. neurophysiologic measurement of brain electrical activity recorded by electrodes placed on the scalp is generally known as EEG. Being a noninvasive process, it is frequently put to experimantation. EEG also has excellent temporal resolution. Here, a time scale of milliseconds' electrical activity change in the brain can be easily detected.
