Yoga is a correct life science and works when it is integrated into our daily life. It works in all aspects of the person's physical, mental, emotional, psychic and spiritual. The word yoga means "unity" or "uniqueness" and is derived from the Sanskrit word "yuj" which means "to unite".
There are too many misconceptions that cloud the science of Yoga. People perceive that it is a kind of black or white magic, witchcraft, physical or mental debauchery through which miraculous feats can be performed. For some it is an extremely dangerous practice, which should be limited to those who have renounced the world. Few think it is a kind of mental and physical acrobatics that is compatible only with a Hindu mind.
The human mind is subject to certain weaknesses that are universal. The erroneous notions of the outside world, asmita-erroneous notions of self, raga-longing and attachment to sensitive objects and affections, dweshad is like and hatred of objects and people, and abinivesha or Love of the Life are the five defects of the mind that must be removed. Yoga, constant meditation and introspection eradicate these mental defects.
