For the 2nd batch students of Sadhu Vaswani College of Nursing, the day 20th March 2008 will go down their memories with an extra feather in its cap. In addition to it being the occasion of Baba Gangaram Sajandas? centenary birthday, the day also witnessed the Lamp Lighting Ceremony of these students, an auspicious moment in every nurse?s vocational life.
Held in reverence to Florence Nightingale or Lady with the Lamp as she is more popularly known, this ceremony initiates the students into the noble profession of nursing, where adorned in their uniforms for the first time, these students hereafter will study and practice in actual medical surroundings.
After a heart-warming welcome song by our singer Ashish Thadani, lamps were lit in front of the portraits of Sadhu Vaswani and Baba Gangaram. All the dignitaries – Mrs. Ratna Vaswani (Chairperson, SVM), Maj. Gen. G. H. Israni (CEO, SVM & Chief Guest for the event), Brig. Gidvani (Dir. of Academy) and Retd. Lt. Col. (Mrs.) Manonmani. V. (Principal, SVCON) ? were welcomed on stage and felicitated.
A motivational and inspiring welcome speech by Mrs. R. A. Vaswani ensued, where she sought to remind the students, of Sadhu Vaswani?s message ?Kindle the Light??.the light of compassion, the light of caring and the light of wisdom. Our Rev. Dada J. P. Vaswani says that we must always be on the look-out for opportunities to serve others. Mrs. Ratna Vaswani put it very well when she pointed-out that nursing is such a blessed profession, where such opportunities to serve others come knocking at the doors everyday.
The end of the speech brought forth the eagerly awaited moment when all the distinguished guests together lit the auspicious lamp. The flame was then passed on by Mrs. Manonmani. V. to Lt. Col. (Mrs) Valsa Pathak and Mrs. Anita Khandagle who then passed on the flame to each of the first-year students. The candles held in their hands, aglow in the darkened room, seemed to set ablaze in their hearts the spirit of dedication and love, which echoed out in the Nurses pledge they undertook as also in the ?Nurses song? that they sang later.
The college report for the year 2007 – 2008 was presented by the college principal, Mrs. Manonmani. V., followed by an inspirational address by the chief guest Maj. Gen. Israni who drew everyone?s attention to the fact that this year would also witness the platinum jubilee year of the ?Mira Movement? in education.
Prizes were conferred to deserving students for their excellence in extra curricular activities, the likes of debate competition, sports, cultural activities etc.
