The real-time audience measurement system consists of five consecutive steps: face detection, face tracking, gender recognition, age rating, and cloud data statistics analysis. The challenging part of such a system is the age estimation algorithm based on machine learning methods. The aging process of the face is determined by different factors: genetic, lifestyle, expression and environment. That is why people of the same age can have very different rates of facial aging. We propose a new algorithm consisting of two stages: the extraction of adaptive features based on the local binary patterns and the classification of the vector support machine. We present experimental results on FG-NET, MORPH and our own database. The ability of human perception in estimating age is studied using crowdsourcing that allows a comparison of the ability of machines and humans.
Age estimation is the determination of a person's age based on biometric characteristics. Although age estimation can be achieved using different biometric traits, this article focuses on estimating facial age that is based on biometric features extracted from a person's face. The main problems presented in the article refer to typical applications in which the estimation of facial age, the problem and the challenges associated with the estimation of facial age, typical approaches reported in the literature and future directions can be used research.
