Translucent concrete (also: light-transmitting concrete) is a concrete-based building material with light-transmitting properties due to built-in light optical elements, usually optical fibers. The light is led through the stone from one end to the other. Therefore, the fibers have to traverse the entire object. This results in a certain pattern of light on the other surface, depending on the structure of the fiber. Shadows projected on one side appear as silhouettes through the material. Translucent concrete is used in fine architecture as a facade material and for the lining of interior walls. Light-transmitting concrete has also been applied to various design products.

There are several ways to produce translucent concrete. All are based on fine-grained concrete (approximately 95%) and only 5% light-conducting elements that are added during the casting process. After placement, the concrete is cut to plates or stones with standard machinery for cutting stone materials. Working with natural light make sure there is sufficient light available. Wall-mounted systems need to be equipped with some type of lighting, designed to achieve even illumination across the entire surface of the board. Usually assembly systems are used similar to natural stone panels - for example, LUCEM uses a perforated assembly with visible screws, agraffes undermining anchors or facade anchors.
