Abstract

The demand for high-speed mobile wireless communications is rapidly growing.
OFDM technology promises to be a key technique for achieving the high data capacity and spectral efficiency requirements for wireless communication systems of the near future. Introduction

The proliferation of wireless products over past few years has been rapidly increasing. New wireless standards such as GPRS and HSCSD have brought new challenges to wireless transceiver design. One pivotal component of transceiver is frequency synthesizer.

Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is multicarrier transmission technique. OFDM is a communication technique that divides the communication channel into a number of equally spaced frequency bands. A sub carriers a portion of the users information in each band. Each sub carriers is orthogonal (Independent of each other) with every other sub carrier. UWB is a wireless technology that transmits binary data-the 0s and 1s that are the digital building blocks of modern information systems. It uses low-energy and extremely short duration (in the order of pico seconds) impulses or bursts of RF (radio frequency) energy over a wide spectrum of frequencies, to transmit data over short to medium distances, say about 15-100 m. It doesn't use carrier wave to transmit data.

Abstract

Comparative studies on DWT-OFDM and FFTOFDM systems are presented. The model for DWT-OFDM includes zero-padding and vector transpose for transmitting the OFDM signal. MATLAB simulation commands are also described. The discrete wavelet transform-OFDM (DWT-OFDM) has to satisfy the orthonormal bases and the perfect reconstruction properties to be considered as wavelet transform.
