As the petroleum based fuels are on the verge of exhaustion, future transportation needs alternatives. The electric car comes in handy. So an attempt is made to present the basic ideas of an electric car. The relative advantages of electric cars like reliability, non dependence on petrol or diesel, less air pollution etc., and also the disadvantages like higher initial cost, less capacity etc., has also been discussed.
