OBJECTIVE
• HEV are used for increase fuel efficiency and to tackle pollution problems.
• To make a transformer less multilevel inverter for high voltage and high current HEV.
• The cascaded inverter is IGBT based and it is fired in a sequence.
• The simulation has been done in PSIM and MATLAB and its responses match the theoretical concept of multilevel inverter.

 Based on concept of using diodes to limit power devices voltage stress
Structure and basic operating principle
 Consists of series connected capacitors that divide DC bus voltage into a set of capacitor voltages
 A DCMI with nl number of levels typically comprises (nl-1) capacitors on the DC bus
 Voltage across each capacitor is VDC/(nl-1)

Abstract—
In this paper, the method of triangular carrier
switching control of two-level inverters is extended to cascaded
multilevel inverters using phase-shifted multicarrier unipolar
pulsewidth modulation (PWM). The condition for smooth modulation
is obtained using the Bessel’s function representation of
the PWM output and the switching condition of the multilevelinverter-

A new operational mode for diode-clamped multilevel inverters termed quasi two-level operation is proposed.
