• HEV are used for increase fuel efficiency and to tackle pollution problems.
• To make a transformer less multilevel inverter for high voltage and high current HEV.
• The cascaded inverter is IGBT based and it is fired in a sequence.
• The simulation has been done in PSIM and MATLAB and its responses match the theoretical concept of multilevel inverter.

A new operational mode for diode-clamped multilevel inverters termed quasi two-level operation is proposed. Such operation aims to avoid the imbalance problem of the dc-link capacitors for multilevel inverters with more than three levels and reduces the dc-link capacitance without introducing any significant voltage ripple at the dc-link nodes. This paper highlights some effects of an asymmetrical design on three phase multilevel inverters from a supply network point of view. multilevel inverters using phase-shifted multicarrier unipolar
pulsewidth modulation (PWM). The condition for smooth modulation
