In this paper, several low power techniques, including low transition ASCII (LT-ASCII), that are particularly effective for the universal asynchronous receiver / transmitter (UART) circuits are proposed. Low power techniques, such as voltage scaling, clock gating, MT-CMOS and complete power shut down, are investigated to minimize the UART logic power in both continuous and idle modes of operation.
