Tokyo Japan, February 19, 2002: Nine leading companies announced that they have jointly established the basic specifications for a next generation large capacity optical disc video recording format called Blu-ray Disc. The Blu-ray Disc enables the recording, rewriting and play back of up to 27 gigabytes (GB) of data on a single sided single layer 12cm CD/DVD size disc using a 405nm blue-violet laser. The name Blu-ray is derived from the blue-violet laser it uses to read and write to the chalcogenide disc. A Blu-ray Disc can store substantially more data than a DVD, because of the shorter wavelength (405 nm) of the blue-violet laser (DVDs use a 650-nm-wavelength red laser and CDs use an infrared 780 nm laser), which allows more information to be stored digitally in the same amount of space. Optical disks share a major part among the secondary storage devices.Blu .ray Disc is a next .generation optical disc format. The technology utilizes a blue laser diode operating at a wavelength of 405 nm to read and write data. Modern radiation therapy techniques, such as stereotactic radiotherapy and tomotherapy, deliver the total treatment dose to the patient using many small fields. This helps to construct a dose distribution which delivers a high dose to the tumour, while minimizing the dose to normal tissue. DEXA is a instrumental technique used to measure bone mineral density (BMD), which is the widely accepted indicator of bone strength.
