Abstract†In this paper we study the ˜service capacity™ of peer to peer (P2P) le sharing applications. We begin by considering a transient regime which is key to capturing the ability of such sys- tems to handle bursty trafc, e.g., ash crowds. In this context our models, based on age dependent branching processes, exhibit ex- ponential growth in service capacity, and permit the study of sen- sitivity of this growth to system policies and parameters. We present a new model for multiple input multiple-output (MIMO) out door wireless fading channels which is more general and realistic than the usual i.i.d. model. We investigate the channel capacity as a function of parameters such as the local scattering radius at the transmitter and the receiver, the distance between the transmit (TX) and receive (RX) arrays, and the antenna beamwidth sand spacing.
