SYNOPSIS
The anti-knock quality of the gasoline fuel used in spark ignition internal combustion engine can be enhanced by the addition of lead alkyls . But it causes formation and emission of toxic lead compounds . These lead alkyls can be replaced by high octane , oxygen containing organic compounds called oxygenates.
