Abstract
In this paper, a low-power consumption remote homesecurity alarm system developed by applying WSN and GSMtechnology is presented. It can detect the theft, leaking of raw gasand fire, and send alarm message remotely. The hardware of thissystem includes the single chip C5081F310, wireless receiving andsending chip CC1100 as well as the SIMENS TC35 GSM module.The system software developed in C51 language has the ability ofcollecting, wireless receiving and sending data, and can send apiece of alarm short message to the user’s mobile phone whensome dangerous condition has been detected.Keywords-wireless sensor network; global system for mobilecommunications; home security system; short message
I. INTRODUCTION
Safety is the most important requirement of home forpeople. With the development of IT technology, network andautomatic control technology, a remote home securitymonitoring and alarming system becomes more and morepracticable today. By combining wireless sensor network(WSN) and GSM technology, this paper designs a low-powerconsumption remote home security monitoring and alarmingsystem that can detect the theft, leaking of raw gas and fire, andsend alarm message to the house owner’s mobile phone.Wireless sensor network is composed of a large amount ofminiature self-organizing wireless sensor nodes. Bycombining three kinds of technology such as sensor, micromechatronicsand wireless communication, WSN can detect,collect and deal with the object information in its coveringarea, and send data to the observer. In a word, WSNtechnology has the advantages of wide covering area, able toremote monitoring, high monitoring precision, fast networkestablishment and reasonable cost [1]. GSM network has theadvantages of mature technology, wide covering area, longcommunication distance, and sound communication effectand so on. The remote home security system presented in thispaper combines so many advantages of WSN and GSM.Firstly, wherever the users are, once some dangerous instancehappens in home, such as gas leaking or thief intruding, thissystem can send alarm short message to the users throughGSM network immediately, informing people the possibledangerous circumstances in home. Secondly, the wirelesssensor network established in home has the features of easeestablishment, without use of cable, and low-power consumption.
II. SYSTEM STRUCTURE AND WORKING PRINCIPLE
The system structure is illustrated in Fig.1. It is composedof the MCU-based home wireless control center, one WSNcenter node module, and several data collecting nodes, GSMmodule, GSM network and mobile phone. The WSN datacollecting node modules are connected with pyroelectricinfrared detector, temperature sensor, smoke detector and gassensor separately. When the pyroelectric infrared detector findsthat some people intrudes into the house abnormally; or whenthe temperature sensor detects too high indoor temperature andat the same time, the smoke sensor detects overproof smokeconcentration; or when the gas sensor detects overproofcombustible gas concentration, the sensors will send encodedalarm signal to the home control center through the wirelesssensor network established in home. Once the wireless controlcenter receives alarm signal, it will send alarm short message tothe users through the GSM module and GSM networkimmediately.
III. SELECTION AND DESIGN OF SYSTEM HARDWARE
