Abstract:
This paper presents the development of GSM based energy meter system. In present day’s consumer as well as the electricity board are facing many problems in billing system and collecting the revenue. Using GSM power meters we can overcome the problems which are observed in present system like tampering, labour cost, paper cost, and bill payment. The main aim of the project is to monitor energy meter and billing system of an electrical energy consumed and paying the bills through prepaid/post-paid consumption of power and it maintains records of electrical power consumed over time by electrical appliances.
Introduction:
Every month we can see a person standing in front of our house from Electricity board or water Board whose duty is to read the energy meter/water meter and handover the bills (electric or water) to the owner of that house . This is nothing but meter reading. According to that reading we have to pay the bills. The main drawback of this system is that person has to go area by area and he has to read the meter of every house and handover the bills. The Electricity board and Water authority has to give privileges for these people to do their duty monthly. The thing is, Government will not appoint any particular persons for this duty. The people working in these boards will go on a particular day and do their duty leaving all their pending works. Due to this, their work will be delayed and this is great loss for government. To overcome this drawback we have come up with an idea and this idea will help the government and it will save the time of the employees working in these boards. The present system has following drawbacks. If the consumer consumes more power, the bill will be high. Tampering, Labour cost, paper cost will be increases. For the bill payment the consumer has to go for consumer forums only. To overcome all these problems by using our system: The number of units consumed by consumer is immediately transmitted to the administrator (Electricity board), so no problem of less payment. Tampering is also avoided by our system. Labour cost, paper cost will be minimised by using of our system. The payment of electricity bill can be done through recharging the SIM which is present in the modem, as we recharge our mobile phones also by using internet etc. The purpose of this paper is remote monitoring and control the domestic energy meters. This system enables the electricity departments to read the meter readings regularly without the person visiting the house. This can be achieved by the microcontroller that continuously monitors and records the energy meter readings in its permanent (non-voltaic) memory location. This System also makes use of a GSM modem for remote monitoring and control of energy meter. The microcontroller based system continuously records the readings and the live meter reading can be sent to the electricity department on request. This system can also be used to disconnect the power supply to the house in case of non payment of electricity bills. A dedicated GSM modem with sim card is required for each energy meter. energy meters and digital energy meters, but now a day’s most of energy meters are of digital type.
