Dental caries, also known as tooth decay or cavity, is a disease wherein bacterial processes damage hard tooth structure .These tissues progressively break down, producing dental caries. Two groups of bacteria are responsible for initiating caries: Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus. If left untreated, the disease can lead to pain, tooth loss, infection, and, in severe cases, death.# .These tissues progressively break down, producing dental caries.Dental caries is a mouth disease that causes damage to certain structures of the tooth. This damage is caused by bacterial growth in the mouth. There are two types of bacteria that commonly cause this damage; a species called Streptococcus mutans, and species in the Lactobacillus genus.
