The Cripps Mission
*Prime Minister Churchill sent Sir Stafford Cripps to India with fresh proposals of constitutional reforms.
*Cripps Mission came to India on 22nd March 1942.
*Sir Stafford Cripps was the Chairman of Cripps Mission.
*Linlithgow was the Viceroy of India during the time of Cripps Mission.
*Cripps proposed that India would be given the Dominion Status immediately after the end of the war.
*India would be free to, frame its own constitution after the war.
*It envisaged a federation of British India and the Indian states as a dominion within the British commonwealth.
* Cripps Mission was a failure because the Congress and the League rejected the proposals.
*Gandhiji called the Cripps mission as 'A post dated cheque on a Crashing Bank
Louis Mountbatten
*Louis Mountbatten was the last Viceroy of India and the first Governor General of Independent India.
*Louis Mountbatten was sent to India by Clement Atlee tb ease the process of transfer of power to India from Britain.
*He arrived India on 22nd March 1947.
Wauell Plan 1945
*On 14th June 1945 Viceroy Lord Wavell formulated a plan popularly called Wavell plan.
*The essence of the plan was the formation of a new executive council at the centre in which all members except viceroy and commander in chief were Indians.
*Indian National Congress and Muslim League would get equal preference in the reconstituted council,.
*The plan proposed the formation of an interim govt. before proceeding for the work of framing constitution.
*Indian leaders were invited for Simla Conference by Wavell to discuss the plan.
*He formulated and announced the plan in as joint conference of Congress and Muslim League in Delhi on 3rd June 1947.
*India was partitioned according to the Mountbatten Plan.
*It is also known as Balkan Plan
*Mountbatten Plan is otherwise known as
