Uttarakhand, the 27th state of India was created on November 9, 2000 as the 10th country Himalayan state blessed with natural resources and minerals in abundance and prepared to be a 20000 MW HYDRO POWER HUB of India in the future.
Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL), formerly Uttaranchal Power Corporation Ltd was incorporated under the Companies Act of 1956 on 12 February 2001 as a result of the formation of the State of Uttarachal. UPCL, has been in charge of servicing the Transmission and Distribution Sectors inherited after the merger of UPPCL (formerly UPSEB) since April 1, 2001. The Electricity Law. 2003 ordered the separation of the Transmission functions under the Energy Sector Reforms. On June 1, 2004, the Power Transmission Corporation Limited (PTCUL) was created to maintain and operate 132 KV and more of the Transmission Lines and Substations in the State. Today UPCL, the Uttaranchal Government's State Power Distribution Utility (GoU) supplies the secondary substations and distribution lines 66 KV and below in the state.
UPCL - the first line state power distribution provider and the QUALITY and POWER SUPPLY service provider RELIABLE to over 1.89 million electricity consumers distributed over the 13 districts of Uttarakhand ie Dehradun , Pauri, Tehri, Haridwar, Pithoragarh, Almora, Nainital, Uttarkashi, Udhamsingh Nagar, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Champawat. These electric consumers are classified depending on their national heir, commercial, agricultural and industrial loads. UPCL is also the first electricity company in India to initiate the empowerment of women by employing local women through self-help groups such as franchisees, meter reading, bill distribution and revenue collection.
UPCL expects committed participation from a team of professionals always striving for excellence in performance with new innovative technologies to strengthen the STATE's Energy Distribution Infrastructure in Seamless Integration with Generation and Transmission Utilities for Socioeconomic Development. PLAN is underway with the construction of new substations of 33/11 KV in the state.
