The Central South Railway is one of the sixteen zones of the Indian Railways. The jurisdiction of the zone extends through the states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, the state of Telangana and some portions of Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It has six divisions under its administration, which include, Guntakal, Guntur, Nanded, Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
The area was formed on October 2, 1966 by merging the carved divisions of Hubli, Vijayawada of the southern railway zone and Sholapur, Secunderabad of the central railway area. On October 2, 1977, the Guntakal division of the Southern Railway Zone was merged and Sholapur's already combined division was separated from the area and became part of its former zone of the Central Railway. On 17 February 1978, the Hyderabad division was formed by dividing the existing branch division of Secunderabad Railway. On 1 April 2003, two new divisions of Guntur and Nanded were created in this area and the division of Hubli was merged and became part of the south western part of the railway.
The area is organized in six divisions: Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Guntakal, Guntur, Vijayawada, Nanded and extends through the states of Telangana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
