Environmental Biology is gaining increasing attention, especially in these environmentally conscious times. Malaysia enjoys the luxury of a rich biodiversity in a relatively small area. Their effective preservation and conservation require a strong understanding and appreciation of the environment. Students are trained in fundamental and practical aspects of ecology and the environment. Therefore, aquatic biology and environmental biology are closely related. The academic staff of the School of Biological Sciences conducting research related to Environmental Biology is also involved in the supervision of postgraduate students working on research topics related to Aquatic Biology. For this reason, the thrust areas of Aquatic Biology and Environmental Biology are coordinated under the same President of the Program and belong to the group AQEN Bio (Environmental and Environmental Biology).
