Plastic bags are the cause of major environmental concerns. Statistics show that we are consuming more and more plastics each year. It is estimated that an average individual uses about 130 plastic bags per year. Most of them go directly to our landfill and a very small percentage of plastic bags are actually recycled. A reduction in the use of plastic bags is essential to solve the environmental problems that are derived from them. Plastic bags and containers represent an important part of our garbage dumps. More importantly, plastic bags are one of the topites of trash on our community beaches, roads, sidewalks and greenery along with cigarette butts and polystyrene bags. Due to their light weight, plastic bags fly easily in the wind, float easily in river and ocean currents, become entangled in trees, fences, poles and also, and block drainage.
