The Ennore Power Plant is a coal-based power plant located in Ennore of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The power station has been a major supplier of electricity in the state and its production capacity has been improved over the years. The Ennore Power Station has also won several TANGEDCO awards. However, the energy deficit appears to be playing an important role in the recent decision. It also has a special treatment plant to dispose of the ash suspension properly.
Coal for ETPS is received from MCL (Talchar and Ib valley), Orissa and ECL, Raniganj, West Bengal. The plant load factor (PLF) for the year 2008-2009 was 49.17 percent.
History
Ennore Thermal Power Station was built to serve the purpose of power generation in the year 1970. It is one of the four most important thermal power stations in Tamil Nadu established by TANGEDCO. It currently has an installed capacity of 450 MW (600,000 CV). The necessary coal arrives by the ship to the port of Ennore. However, the construction of 1,000 MW (1,300,000 HP) plants at the premise began in 2007. The station currently consists of two 60 MW units and three 110 MW units. A coal-based unit of 500 MW was proposed and its development began in November 2007. The total cost of the company was 270 crores.
Developments
The Ennore thermal power plant has been delivered for improvement. A SEZ project is being discussed on the site. The new project will use the latest technology to improve production. The proposal also speaks of a super-critical procedure application. In recent years due to the shortage of coal in the state, coal is imported to run the power plant.
