Fungicide is the process of producing food, medicine and other products by growing mushrooms and other fungi. The word is also commonly used to refer to the practice of growing fungi by leaf-cutting ants, termites, ragweed beetles and marsh periwinkles.
Growing mushrooms is becoming increasingly popular because it not only meets dietary requirements but also adds to the income, especially of producers with insufficient land. It is considered to be a very rewarding and fascinating pastime for retired people as well as domestic wives who can grow mushrooms in small boxes or other containers while attending household chores. Today, mushroom cultivation faces fewer difficulties as long as the grower follows simple rules of growth.
It is truly surprising that a small amount of spawning when sown in suitable growing medium, within almost six weeks, can become a highly profitable crop within a room where no other crop will grow. On the other hand, mushrooms have more uses in modern culinary cooking than any other food crop. The cultivation of fungi is done indoors in any room, shed, basement, garage, etc., which should be well ventilated. However, paddy straw mushroom can be grown in very humid places.
Of the many mushrooms only three types of mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus), straw mushroom (Voluariella uoluacea) and oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus sajor-caju) are suitable for growing in India.
The button mushroom is grown in winter. The best temperature for the dissemination of mycelium is 24-25 ° C, while 16-18 ° C is essential for the formation of fruit bodies. The highest temperature is harmful and the low temperature retards the development of mycelium of fungi and fruit bodies.
Paddy straw mushroom can be grown around 35 ° C. The temperature should not go below 30 ° C or above 40 ° C for more than 4-8 hours during the growing period. In northern India can be cultivated from April to September, but the most suitable period is from mid-June to mid-September.
Dhingri (oyster mushrooms) grows best between 22-28 ° c. It is cultivated in the northern plains from October to March.
