Ferrocement is a building material consisting of wire meshes and cement mortar. The applications of ferrocement in construction are vast due to low self-weight, lack of skilled workers, no need etc. It was developed by PLNervi, an Italian architect in 1940. The quality of the ferrocement works is ensured because the components are manufactured on The configuration of the machinery and the time of execution in the workplace is smaller. The cost of maintenance is low. This material has come to be of widespread use only in construction in the last two decades.
Ferrocement construction technology is very popular all over the world. Ferrocement, a thin element, is used as a building construction, as well as a repair material. This work tries to review the literature on ferrocement and to highlight the most outstanding characteristics of the construction, the properties of the material and the special techniques of application of the cement mortar on the reinforcement mesh. This study highlights the importance of the use of ferrocement in swimming pools and water tanks, silos, corrugated ceilings, shell and dome structures, as well as repair of old / deteriorated RCC structures. Also discussed in this paper is a ferrocement-like material, called Cement Engineers Compounds, which uses fibers as reinforcement. The recommendations of this study include the addition of fibers in ferrocement to reduce crack width. Current authors recommend that experimental research on new reinforcement materials be conducted in the future.
