A new concept of the FACTS controller is the Interline Power Flow Controller (IPFC) for series compensation with the unique ability to control the flow of energy between multiple lines within the same transmission line corridor. The IPFC employs two or more Voltage Source Converters (VSC) with a common DC link. Each VSC can provide series compensation for the selected line of the transmission system (master line or slave) and is able to exchange reactive power with its own transmission system. In this work, an IPFC based on the topology of the current converter is proposed. In this structure, the DC side current is set to a value greater than the maximum value of the maximum line current. The injected voltage is controlled according to the desired reactive power compensation and manages the active power flow for the master line. The decoupled state feedback control for the voltage injected with a separate DC control is applied to the proposed system. The proposed IPFC has been simulated using the Matlab / Simulink program.
The transmission of electric energy is done through transmission lines. Therefore FACT devices went into the picture to make these transmission lines more efficient. The FACTS have had a considerable impact on the control of power flow in the transmission lines. One of the Fact devices is IPFC. It is a new concept for the efficient compensation and management of the power flow of multi-line transmission systems. This paper studies the general IPFC system and simulates the interline power flow controller model for a single-phase three-bus system for understanding the power flow in a MATLAB / SIMULINK transmission line.
