Every device we use in our daily lives, such as mobile phone, computer, induction cookers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, etc., requires electric power supply. Therefore, advancement in technology is increasing the use of electrical and electronic devices - which, in turn - is increasing the demand for energy. Thus, to meet the load demand, different techniques are used for the generation of electric energy. In recent times, to avoid pollution and to conserve non-renewable energy resources such as coal, oil, etc., renewable energy sources like solar energy, wind, etc., are being preferred for power generation. The combination of renewable energy sources can also be used to generate energy called as a hybrid energy system. As a special case, we will discuss about the operation of the solar-wind hybrid system in this article.
Hybrid solar and wind energy systems are designed using solar panels and small wind turbine generators to generate electricity. Generally, these hybrid solar wind systems are capable of small capacities. Typical power generation capabilities of hybrid solar wind systems are in the range of 1 kW to 10 kW. Before we talk briefly about the hybrid solar and wind energy system, we must know the systems of solar energy generation and systems of wind power generation.
Working on the Solar Hybrid Solar System
To better understand the operation of the solar hybrid solar system, we must know the operation of the solar energy system and the wind energy system. Solar power system can be defined as the system that uses solar energy for power generation with solar panels. The block diagram of the hybrid solar wind system is shown in the figure in which the solar panels and the wind turbine are used for power generation.

Solar Energy System Work
Solar energy is one of the main renewable energy resources that can be used for different applications, such as solar power generation, solar water heaters, solar calculators, solar chargers, solar lamps, etc. There are several advantages of using solar energy in electric power generation, including low pollution, cost-effective power generation (neglecting installation cost), maintenance-free power system, etc. The solar energy system consists of three main blocks: solar panels, photovoltaic solar cells, and batteries to store energy. Electric power (DC power) generated using solar panels can be stored in batteries or can be used to supply DC loads or can be used for the inverter to power AC loads.
