The Amara Raja Group is best known for its brand of automotive batteries "Amaron", which is the second-largest brand of automotive batteries in India. Amara Raja Batteries made the list of Asian companies 'Best Under A Billion' 2010 compiled by Forbes magazine .
History
A first-generation entrepreneur, Dr. Ramachandra Naidu Galla is the founder of Amara Raja Group of Companies in 1985. The automotive battery business started operations in 2001 with technology from Johnson Controls Inc., a joint venture partner and The world's largest automotive manufacturer Las pilas. It pioneered the introduction of zero maintenance technology in India's automotive battery segment, the key differentiator in a car battery market in India.
It is named after the grandparents of Jay Galla, Amaravati and Rajagopal Naidu.
