Sir Henri Fayol (July 29, 1841 - November 19, 1925) was a French mining engineer and mining director who developed a general theory of business administration. Fayol's work was one of the first comprehensive statements of a general theory of management. Fayol was a successful mining engineer and senior executive before publishing his principle of administrative science. He was not primarily a theorist but rather a successful high-level executive who tried to put order in his personal experiences. Fayol's five major management roles are still actively practiced today he has found "plan, organize, order, coordinate and control" written on the chalkboard of more than one manager during his career. Fayol's ideas had a greater effect on how functions function in most established organizations.
