Doordarshan At Chennai
INTRODUCTION
DD Chennai formerly known as DD Madras is a state owned TV channel telecasting from Doordarshan Kendra Chennai.Doordarshan Kendra Chennai was inaugurated on 15 August 1975. The service has been extended to the entire state in phased manner by installing Terrestrial Transmitters of different capacities ( HPTs, LPTs, VLPTs ) at different parts of the state.only one channel with limited time for regional language i.e. Tamil was telecasted,the duration of the entire telecast was not for 24 hours.During 1985 colour transmission was started; in 1988 a second channel was started. Meanwhile, in 1986 Tamil serials were telecasted for the first time. DD Chennai is one of the oldest kendras in the country, having been begun in the mid- 1970s. In addition to the Terrestrial transmission, Chennai programmes were beamed through satellite and cable networks. The channel is owned and operated by Doordarshan, a television network of Prasar Bharati Broadcasting Corporation and is based in Chennai, India. Prasar Bharati is an autonomous corporation of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and comprises Doordarshan television network and All India Radio.
The Staff Training Institute (Technical ) is the apex in-house training Institute of All India Radio & Doordarshan, primarily catering to the training needs of engineering personnel of All India Radio & Doordarshan. The Institute conducts about 120 courses every year and trains around 1,600 engineering personnel. Officials from broadcasting organizations of some neighboring developing countries are regular participants in the Institute’s training programmes
· To mould raw recruits into broadcasting technology
· To upgrade the skills of personnel in tune with emerging technology
· To bring out training related material
· To assist in career growth of the staff
Apart from the main functions of imparting training, the institute has the responsibility to carry out the following activities:
· Conducting Departmental Competitive Examinations
· Conducting Direct Recruitment Examination
· Preparing and updating Technical Manuals
· Preparing Safety Manuals
· Preparation of Technical Monographs
· Publication of Newsletter
The Staff Training Institute (Programmes) is the training wing of Prasar Bharati situated at Kingsway Camp, Delhi. Staff Training Institute (Programme) was established in 1948 at Delhi as an attached office of DG, AIR, New Delhi. It was declared as a subordinate office with effect from 01.01.1990. The Staff Training Institute at Delhi is responsible for training of in-service personnel working in various stations of All India Radio & Doordarshan. The participants are given hostel facilities in a three-storey hostel building at Kingsway Camp. STI(P)Delhi is presently headed by Additional Director General(Training). The other members of the programme faculty sanctioned for the institute are Director, Deputy Director, Asstt. Directors & Instructor of Programmes. The faculty of Administrative Training is looked after by Deputy Director of Administrative Training. The administrative staff working in STI(P) comprises one Assistant ,one Accountant ,three Stenographers, Librarian, two LDC’s ,one Driver, One Daftary & four peons.
Subsequently six other Regional Training Institutes came up in different zones covering the entire region of the country. The regional centers are controlled by the Staff Training Institutes of Programmes, Delhi for coordination of various training programmes.
