(TMS) transportation management system is a subset of transport supply chain management activities and may be part of an enterprise resource planning system.
A TMS usually "lies" between an ERP or a legacy of order processing and warehouse module / distribution. A typical scenario would include both inbound (procurement) and outbound (shipping) for orders to assess by the planning module TMS offering various routing solutions suggested by the user. These solutions are evaluated by the user for reasonable and are forwarded to the transportation provider analysis module to select the best mode and the cheapest provider. Once the best supplier is selected, the solution generates generally tender of electronic charge and track / trace run optimized sending with the chosen medium, and later to support the examination of the goods and payment (process). Links to ERP systems (after the commands transformed into optimal deliveries), and sometimes secondarily programs WMS also linked to the ERP are also common.
