White light on light-emitting diodes (LED) as a substitute for HID lamps in street lighting system, to include the dimming function. 8051 microcontroller family is used to control the intensity, developing a pulse-width modulated signals that triggers the MOSFET for switching LEDs accordingly to achieve the desired operation.

In this system, mainly covering roads is carried out through the discharge lamps (HID), the energy of which consumption is high. Its intensity may not be managed in accordance with the requirement there is therefore a need to switch to an alternative way to System i.e. lighting using LEDs. This system is built to overcome the shortcomings of today's gas-discharge lamps. This system demonstrates the use of LEDs (light emitting diodes) as light source and its adjustable intensity according to the requirement. LED consumes less energy and its lifetime longer than conventional HID lamps. More important and interesting feature is its intensity can be regulated in accordance with the requirements in non-peak hours, which is not possible in HID lamps.

A cluster of LEDs are used to form a street light. The microcontroller contains programmable commands that controls the light intensity based on PWM (pulse-width modulation) signals produced. The intensity of the lights are supported at the highest level during peak hours, as traffic on the roads tend to be slow to decline at the end of the night, the intensity also gradually decreases until the morning. Finally he completely shuts down 6 in the morning, and again resumed at 6:00 pm in the evening. The process is repeated.

This concept in the future could be improved by integrating it with a solar panel that converts solar intensity at an appropriate tension, and this energy is used to provide Highway lights.
