Microwave and Optical Communications Lab
In microwave laboratory students will get acquainted with characteristics of microwave sources like Gunn diode and reflex klystron. Different parameters like group velocity, phase velocity, characteristic impedance, load impedance, VSWR, operating frequency, directivity, coupling, insertion loss, s-parameters, radiation pattern of antennas and dielectric constant of a material can be measured. Performance of fixed and variable attenuators, directional coupler, E & H Plane Tee junctions and isolator can be measured.
In optical communication characteristics of optical sources and detectors, losses in optical fibre and numerical aperture can be measured. Data transfer between transmitter and receiver through optical fibre can be done and its baud rate can be measured.
