*AAY was implemented for providing rice and wheat at low rate through public distribution system

*AAY was started in six states Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andra Pradesh, Chattisgarh and the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
*Anthyodaya Anna Yojana Scheme is concerned for the poorest of poor among BPL families.
Benefits
*The food grains allocated through this scheme are 35 kilos of rice and wheat (Rs. 3 per kg. for rice, Rs. 2 per kg for wheat)
*At, the time of implementation food grains allocated under AAY - 25 kg
*It was increased to 35 kg per family per month from 1st April 2002.
Anthyodaya Ration Card
*After identification of Anthyodaya families, a distinctive ration card is issued. It is known as Anthyodaya Ration Card (It includes details of anthyodaya family,scale of ration,etc.)

*Under the expanded AAY, exclusive AAY cards are also issued to,
*Senior citizens who have no regular means of subsistence
*Widows and families headed by widows
*Terminally ill and physically handicapped even if they are not in possession of any

*AYY was implemented by Department of Food and Civil Supplies.
*AAY ensure food security for all and to reform and improve the public distribution system.

*The identification of the Anthyodaya families and issuing of distinctive ration cards to these families is the responsibility of the concerned state governments.
