A stressed ribbon bridge (also a strain relief bridge or catenary bridge) is a tension structure (similar in many respects to a simple suspension bridge). The suspension cables are embedded in the platform following a catenary arc between the supports. Unlike the single section, the belt is subjected to traction, which increases the rigidity of the structure (simple suspension sections tend to oscillate and rebound). The supports in turn support upward thrust arches that allow to change the degree between sections (where multiple stretches are used). Such bridges are typically made of reinforced concrete with steel tensile cables. When such bridges carry vehicle traffic, a certain degree of stiffness is required to avoid excessive bending of the structure, obtained by tensing the concrete into compression.
