Technological innovations in embedded systems lead to widespread use of it over a wide range of applications. Embedded systems have found in applications ranging from simple consumer electronic gadgets to highly complex industrial equipment. This system uses electronic components in conjunction with computer network systems to have control over multiple computers. The embedded system consists of a single microcontroller or microprocessor that acts as the central control of the interconnected peripheral devices.
With only two main roads running down the west side of Taiwan, traffic congestion and traffic jams during long vacations and weekends is a certainty. Taiwan's National Highway Office (TNH) has established several traffic monitors and control centers to monitor traffic and provide drivers with road conditions and alternative routes to avoid congested sections. To obtain real-time road conditions, control centers depend on a large number of cameras installed along the road. Most cameras support zoom-in / zoom out and left / right panning operations powered by a motor that is controlled remotely via an RS-485 connection. Taking advantage of existing fiber cables running along the road, engineers use serial-to-fiber converters to control camera motors from the control center.
