The Maximum Demand Indicator (MDI) is an instrument that measures the maximum amount of electrical energy required by a specific consumer over a given period of time.
Construction
The MDI instruments are designed in such a way that they record the base load requirements of electrical energy. They can also measure peak load but can not record sudden short circuits or high starting motor currents. Its main pieces of construction are:
1. A Dial connected to the system in motion
2. A pointer on the dial
3. Restart the device
4. Fraction device
5. Indication pin
The peak demand indicator is often available as a built-in feature of three-phase power meters, included in a single case.
Maximum Demand is calculated
Maximum demand (KW) = Maximum registered energy (KWh) / Time (hours)
