The conical gears are conical gears that transmit the movement between two intersecting axes. Zerol bevel gears (marketed by Gleason Co.) are spiral bevel gears in which the spiral angle is zero at the center of the face width. They have the combination of advantages of straight conical gears and spirals. Its characteristics are summarized below.
• The force on the teeth of the conical bevel gears is the same as the conical bevel gears, eliminating the inward thrust force. Because of this, they can be replaced with straight conical gears without changing the fastening conditions or the bearings.
• Since zerol bevel gears can be milled compared to straight bevel gears, they are more precise, quiet and have superior anti-friction quality.
• As with spiral bevel gears, they are used with right and left rotation as a set.
• Spiral bevel gears can be rotated only in one direction, but because of the zero rotation angle of the gears, they can be rotated in both directions as with straight bevel gears.
Stronger against breakage
In general, zerol bevel gears are more resistant against breakage compared to straight and spiral bevel gears for the following reasons.
• The thickness of the tooth is greater.
• The length of the tooth of the bevel gears is longer than that of the bevel gears.
