In most sensor networks, nodes are static. However, node connectivity is subject to change due to interruptions in wireless communication, transmission power changes or loss of synchronization between neighboring nodes. Therefore, even after a sensor is aware of its immediate neighbors, it must continually maintain its point of view, a process we call the continuous discovery of the neighbor. In this work, we distinguish between the discovery of the neighbor during the initialization of the sensor network and the continuous discovery of the neighbor. We focus on the latter and see it as a joint task of all the nodes in each connected segment. Each sensor uses a simple protocol in a coordinated effort to reduce power consumption without increasing the time required to detect hidden sensors.
